Emergency in Orenburg Region did not affect Ormet operations

Most industrial enterprises in Orsk, which was affected by the flood in Orenburg, are operating normally, the regional Ministry of Industry and Energy reported.

“Of the 19 enterprises in Orsk, whose operations are monitored by the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Orenburg Region, 12 were not affected by the flood and are operating normally,” the report says.

Ormet JSC (part of the Russian Copper Company) reported that the emergency did not affect business processes.

“Ormet’s production facilities are located in three districts of the Orenburg Region – Novoorsky, Adamovsky and Dombarovsky, all of them are operating normally. The delivery of people to work by company transport is also going on without interruptions. There are 40 employees of the enterprise in the flooded area, all of them were provided with assistance in evacuation and accommodation during the threat of flooding, they are not in temporary accommodation points,” the enterprise said in response to an Interfax request.

The Mechanical Plant, Orsk Machine-Building Plant, Uralmash – Mining Equipment, and Orsk Metalworking Plant are operating according to their normal schedule. PJSC Orsknefteorgsintez and PJSC Yuzhuralnickel Plant have suspended production to avoid environmental consequences.

There is a threat of flooding of the Orsk Car Repair Plant if the water level continues to rise. “The bottoms of the quarries at the Orsk Crushed Stone Plant and the Orsk Quarry Administration are flooded, which is natural, the water is systematically pumped out,” the report says.

“The Ministry of Industry and Energy of the region has a headquarters for interaction with enterprises, coordination has been established with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Energy of Russia. The heads of enterprises have been recommended to provide personnel with additional paid days to resolve domestic issues, and to provide financial support to employees affected by the flood,” the report says.

Uralmash – Mining Equipment LLC, which bought the site of the bankrupt Orsk machine-building concern ORMETO-YUMZ, told Interfax that “the plant is operating normally, it is not in the flood zone.”

The Orenburg region has faced the strongest flood in 100 years. A federal emergency has been declared in the region.
