The capacity is expected to be 2 million tons of coal per year
TASS, April 15. Construction of the first coal preparation plant has begun in the Selemdzhinsky District of the Amur Region. This was reported on the regional government website.
“The construction of the first coal preparation plant with a capacity of 2 million tons per year has begun at the Sugodinsko-Ogodzhinsky coal deposit in the Selemdzhinsky District. In the future, six more plants with a capacity of 5 million tons each will be built here. The reserves are estimated at around 2 billion tons. In 2023, 1.4 million tons were mined here,” the report says.
The Ogodzhinskaya Coal Company (part of the Elga company) is developing the deposit. To transport coal from the deposit to the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM), the company is laying a railway line to the Fevralsk station. Its length will be 140 km, 37 km of which have already been laid.
As noted by the Governor of the Amur Region Vasily Orlov, about 4.5 million tons of coal are mined in the region, mainly brown coal is mined by the Russian Coal group of companies. “More energy-intensive coal is mined in the Selemdzhinsky District by the Ogodzhinskaya Coal Company. The enterprise has serious prospects. In the future, annual production will amount to 30 million tons of coal, which will be delivered via the BAM to ports and the central part of Russia. About 7 thousand people will work at the enterprise on a rotational basis, and the total staff will be 14 thousand people, taking into account shift changes, which is twice the population of the Selemdzhinsky District. The development of the company is of colossal importance for the territory,” he said. It is noted that the deposit has a large number of coal grades that are used in many industries. In 2024, it is planned to mine 2.3 million tons of coal. The project for the integrated development of the Ogodzhinsky coal deposit is included in the long-term program “Development of the coal industry until 2035”, approved by the order of the Russian government.
