The plenary session “State strategies for supporting mining science and innovation” was held at the meeting of the Supreme Mining Council

Two years ago, at the initiative of the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov, the project was supported by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin and the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

The project is aimed at expanding the country’s mineral resource base and developing the economy. And its implementation will allow us to discover more mineral deposits, create a basis for the long-term development of Russian companies in the raw materials sector, as well as domestic efficient and environmentally friendly technologies for the exploration and extraction of minerals.

In his speech, the Head of Rosnedra noted the main objectives of the project, including:

– reduction of profitable reserves and the level of reserve replacement;

– dependence of strategic sectors of the economy on imported raw materials;

– dependence on foreign exploration and extraction technologies;

– loss of competencies in the geological industry, etc.

The goal of the project is to launch a new approach to the implementation of geological exploration work and financing promising sites for the next three years.

“I would like to dwell separately on Yakutia. There we are implementing 6 hydrocarbon facilities and 15 solid mineral projects. We already understand that there will be a new gas cluster in Yakutia, which will allow us to take a fresh look at Eastern Siberia in terms of gasification,” the head of Rosnedra emphasized.

Today, a geotechnological center has been created on the basis of the subordinate organization of Rosnedra – VIMS, which is a platform for the development, implementation and application of industrial technologies for conventional deep processing.

The task of the geotechnological center is to work out key technologies for the extraction of scarce groups of minerals.

Yevgeny Petrov noted that based on the results of the work already carried out, it can be said that the depth of processing and the efficiency of involving deposits with poor and difficult-to-process ores are significantly increasing.

In conclusion, the head of Rosnedra spoke about geological exploration work on the Kola Peninsula and the Far East, – “These are really large deposits that will be involved in development in the next five years.”
