On May 21, 2025, a historic event started at the National Geological Survey of Mongolia — the first meeting of the working group of geochemists of the Russian Federation and Mongolia. The event was organized pursuant to clause 1.3 of the II meeting of the Subcommittee on Geology and Subsoil Use of the Intergovernmental Russian-Mongolian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation (protocol dated November 29, 2024).
The Russian delegation was headed by:
● I.G. Spiridonov, General Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution IMGRE (Institute of Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Crystallochemistry of Rare Elements);
● V.A. Kilipko, First Deputy General Director of FSBI IMGRE;
● Sharoiko Yu.A., Head of the Department.
The Mongolian side was represented by:
● P. Battsatsral, Head of the National Geological Survey of Mongolia;
● N. Mankhbilag, Head of the Department of Mineral Resources Research, Planning and Economics;
● Leading experts in the field of geochemistry and subsoil use.
The meeting was held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and strategic partnership.
The parties discussed:
1. The results of regional geochemical work carried out earlier in the border areas.
2. Creation of a seamless 1:1,000,000 scale geochemical map for the border areas of Russia and Mongolia.
3. Approval of the composition of the working groups and plans for joint research.
Key agreements:
1. Integration of geochemical research data from both countries;
2. Development of a set of geochemical maps for the analysis of resource potential;
3. Strengthening scientific and technological cooperation in the field of subsoil use.
The creation of a single map will optimize the exploration of minerals, which is especially important for border areas rich in deposits. The project strengthens Russian-Mongolian relations in the field of geology and opens up new investment opportunities.
The next meeting of the working group is scheduled for autumn 2025. Details are available on the official websites of the Federal State Budgetary Institution IMGRE and the National Geological Survey of Mongolia.
