Sierra Leone is negotiating with Rusal on a bauxite mining concession, the African country’s Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources Julius Matthai told RIA Novosti.
“We have Rusal, which is one of the largest bauxite mining companies in the world. We had several meetings during which there was a lot of interest on their part in opening a bauxite mining concession in Sierra Leone, and these negotiations are still ongoing,” Matthai said on the sidelines of the SPIEF-2024.
He recalled that bilateral relations with Russia in the field of mining were suspended due to the pandemic. “Therefore, we are here to resume cooperation, to confirm that we are strengthening Russian-African relations in the business sphere, especially in the mining industry,” the minister emphasized.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) is being held from June 5 to 8.
