Russia to Increase Steel Production by 5.6% in 2023

It amounted to 75.8 million tons

Steel production in Russia in 2023 amounted to 75.8 million tons, which is 5.6% more than a year earlier, according to the World Steel Association report.

In total, the reporting countries produced 1.849 billion tons of steel in 2023, which is 0.1% less than in 2022.

China produced 1.019 billion tons of steel in the reporting period (an increase of 0.1% compared to 2022), India – 140.2 million tons (an increase of 11.8%). Japan’s steel production for the reporting period amounted to 87 million tons (less by 2.5% than a year earlier). The United States produced 80.7 million tons in 2023, increasing production by 0.2%. Turkey’s steel output amounted to 33.7 million tons (-4%), Iran – 31.1 million tons (+1.8%).

Steel production in Russia in December 2023 amounted to 6 million tons, which is 4.3% more than a year earlier.

At the same time, China produced 67.4 million tons of steel in December (a drop of 14.9% compared to the same period in 2022), India – 12.1 million tons (an increase of 9.5%). Japan’s steel production for the reporting period amounted to 7 million tons (+1.1%). The United States produced 6.8 million tons in December, increasing production by 7.6%.

The World Steel Association is one of the largest industrial associations in the world. Its member companies account for about 85% of the world’s steel production.
