Vorkuta, one of the key strongholds of the Russian Arctic, will receive large-scale investments in excess of 330 billion rubles until 2035. Plans for the development of the polar center, including the construction of a chemical plant, the expansion of coal mining and the modernization of social infrastructure, are contained in the official collection “Arctic in numbers — 2025”, prepared with the participation of the commission of the State Council of the Russian Federation.
The investment program is aimed at diversifying the economy and improving the quality of life in the city. Despite the projected reduction in the population to 51,1 thousand people, the volume of the gross product of the agglomeration is planned to increase by 137%.
