Kazatomprom and TajRedMet to cooperate in mining and processing of uranium, rare and rare earth metals
On August 22, 2024, during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Republic of Tajikistan, JSC National Atomic Company Kazatomprom and TajRedMet signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding cooperation in the mining and processing of uranium, rare and rare earth metals (RM and REE).
The memorandum provides for a strategic partnership that could become an important stage in the development of the mining industry in both countries. The companies plan to work together to implement initiatives including exploration, mining and processing of uranium and other RM and REE, research and development, implementation of innovative technologies, and personnel training.
“This step is of great importance for strengthening the partnership between our companies. Although it is too early to talk about specific results, we are focused on promising joint projects in the uranium industry, as well as rare and rare earth metals, which can bring significant benefits to both Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. We hope that this memorandum will become the basis for long-term and productive cooperation, contributing to economic growth and the development of high technologies in both countries,” said Meirzhan Yusupov, Chairman of the Board of JSC NAC Kazatomprom.
In the near future, representatives of TajRedMet intend to make a return visit to Kazakhstan to get acquainted with the production capacities of Kazatomprom, which is expected to be an important step in the implementation of joint projects and will allow both parties to assess in more detail the potential for further cooperation.
