Ghanaian business is determined to develop dialogue with Russia

Following the results of the 4th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Ghanaian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation (IGC) in Accra, the Chairman of the Russian part of the Commission, the head of Rosnedra Evgeny Petrov noted the high interest of Ghanaian business in establishing bilateral relations with Russia, in finding partnerships and in implementing joint projects in various fields.

According to the head of Rosnedra, the very fact of holding a meeting of the Russian-Ghanaian IGC after a long break attracted the attention of government agencies and representatives of Ghanaian business.

The priority areas of cooperation include:

– mining, primarily gold and other precious metals, mineral raw materials for in-demand metals;

– hydrocarbon production, especially on the shelf and the development of raw material processing processes in the country.

The Ghanaian side has identified the need to move from a supplier of raw materials to integrated processing of products within the country, including in the extraction of lithium and bauxite.

In the context of energy shortages, electricity generation, including new and renewable sources, modernization of equipment and networks are identified as a topical topic for dialogue with Russia.

The Ghanaian partners also expressed their interest in the supply of fertilizers and agricultural machinery, metals and metal products, equipment for processing primary products in various fields from Russia.

Promising areas include the participation of Russian companies in the development of Ghana’s infrastructure, including railway, port and digital.

The need to form new logistics and transport systems to strengthen cooperation between the two countries was identified.

In order to intensify interaction between Russia and Ghana, an agreement was reached to study the possibility of organizing a Business Forum in Russia in 2024 under the auspices of the IGC.
