Botswana Diamonds Begins Implementing Artificial Intelligence in Its Operations

Botswana Diamonds to adopt artificial intelligence in its operations

Dual-listed Botswana Diamonds is set to apply artificial intelligence (AI) to its Botswana database in a bid to find new diamond deposits and potentially other minerals.

The company will use Planetary AI Xplore, a mineral prospecting technology developed in partnership with International Geoscience Services Limited.

According to Botswana Diamonds, the miner’s database is the second-largest in terms of diamond exploration in Botswana.

“Our mineral database in Botswana is simply massive. Too big for humans to quickly analyse. Think about it: over 375,000km of geophysical data and 32,000 drillhole logs,” said Botswana Diamonds Chairman John Teeling.

“Massive databases lend themselves to analysis using big data computer models and artificial intelligence techniques that can analyze large amounts of data in a short time…,” he continues.

“An additional major bonus for Botswana Diamonds and Botswana is that this method can analyze a range of different minerals. We always believed that there were more diamond deposits to be found under the sand [of the Kalahari Desert]. Now there is the possibility of finding more,” Teeling concluded.
