On September 12, 2024, the XXVII session of the Intergovernmental Council on Exploration, Use and Protection of Subsoil began its work in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic.
The XXVII session of the Intergovernmental Council is attended by plenipotentiary representatives and experts from the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the CIS Executive Committee.
The event is chaired by the Kyrgyz Republic in accordance with the Protocol of the XXVI session of the Intergovernmental Council.
The Russian delegation is headed by the plenipotentiary representative of the Russian Federation in the Intergovernmental Council on Exploration, Use and Protection of Subsoil, head of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use E.I. Petrov.
Heads and representatives of geological services of the CIS member states will present detailed information on the results of work for the period from October 2023 to September 2024 on the implementation of the decisions of the XXVI session of the Intergovernmental Council, on the progress of the implementation of the Long-term plan of joint work of the CIS member states in the field of geology for 2023-2030.
The session will also consider reports and proposals from experts on a number of issues, such as
– implementation of joint programs and work in the field of geological study of the subsoil;
– assessment of the mineral resource potential and use of groundwater in the border areas of the CIS member states;
– compilation of consolidated and specialized maps of the geological content of the Central Asian region, a work program for Greater Altai;
– work in the field of geochemistry, in the field of regional geological study of the Caspian region;
– creation of a unified regulatory and methodological framework in the field of subsoil use;
– forecasting hazardous geological processes and phenomena, including with the help of space monitoring;
– metallogenic and laboratory-analytical studies;
– digital transformation of the geological industry, formation of a common information and legal space in the field of subsoil use of the CIS member states;
– holding joint exhibitions and conferences to popularize achievements in the field of geology and subsoil use;
– training and advanced training of personnel in the field of geology.
The Intergovernmental Council for Exploration, Use and Protection of Subsoil Resources was established within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States in accordance with the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Study, Exploration and Use of Mineral Resources dated March 27, 1997. Its work contributes to the practical implementation of policies aimed at the formation and provision of effective activities of the Commonwealth member states.
