Severstal may participate in the construction of the deep-water port of Arkhangelsk

The company may supply its new developments for work in the complex geographical and climatic conditions of the Arctic zone to the project, a company representative said

MOSCOW, August 15. /TASS/. Severstal is considering the possibility of its participation in the project to build a deep-water port in Arkhangelsk. In particular, the company may supply its new developments for the implementation of projects in the complex geographical and climatic conditions of the Arctic zone to the project, a company representative told TASS.

As previously reported by the press service of the Arkhangelsk Region government, negotiations are underway with Severstal on the possibility of its participation in the project to build a deep-water port in Arkhangelsk. The company representative clarified that this concerns the possibility of supplying the company’s latest developments to the project, which Severstal previously presented at the Arctic – Regions forum. Thus, for the construction and modernization of port and road infrastructure, including berthing facilities, the company proposed Grani and Grani Pro trough-type sheet piles. Due to improved technical and economic characteristics, as well as reduced metal consumption, the use of these sheet piles allows to reduce the cost of the project by up to 30% and reduce the construction time.

Cold-formed sheet pile Grani is an import-substituting solution, currently Severstal is the only domestic manufacturer of this product.

Severstal is a vertically integrated mining and metallurgical company, one of the largest steel producers in Russia.

The key asset of the company is the Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works (CherMK), whose production capacity is about 12 million tons of steel per year.
