Dalnegorsk Mining and Processing Plant to Start Production of Calcium Borate, Which Is in Demand in Oil and Gas Extraction

INTERFAX – Dalnegorsk Mining and Processing Plant LLC (Primorsky Krai, part of the Roskhim Group of Companies), the only Russian producer of boron products from its own mineral raw materials, will expand its product line by producing calcium borate, the company’s press service reported.

Calcium borate is a necessary component in the production of materials in various industries, including oil and gas production.

“Work to launch calcium borate will consist of several stages. First of all, it is necessary to repair and update the production line in the boron products workshop. And also to increase the staff – at the moment, the personnel requirement for the new department is 70 people,” commented Yuri Mashencev, chief engineer of Dalnegorsk Mining and Processing Plant.

It was previously reported that in the first half of 2024, the plant produced 51.6 thousand tons of boron products, during this period only boric acid was produced.

At the beginning of the year, the mining and processing plant began upgrading its capacities. On August 5, the enterprise began a scheduled shutdown repair, which will last until August 29.

It was reported that Dalnegorsk GOK plans to allocate about 14.5 billion rubles for upgrading production in 2025-2028. The head of Primorye Oleg Kozhemyako and the general director of JSC Roskhim (formerly Russian Hydrogen) Eduard Davydov signed the corresponding cooperation agreement on the sidelines of the SPIEF-2024.

The Dalnegorsk borosilicate deposit contains about 3% of the world’s boron reserves. The mining and processing plant of the same name has a full technological cycle from ore mining and its enrichment to the synthesis of boron products, such as boric acid, calcium borate, boric anhydride, and datolite concentrate.

The Roskhim group of companies also includes JSC Bashkir Soda Company (BSC, Sterlitamak), JSC Berezniki Soda Plant, JSC Donbiotech and a number of enterprises in the South of Russia.
